But while sprinting in a qualifying heat, he suddenly pulled a hamstring and crumpled to the track in pain. Derek however was determined to go on and struggled as he got to his feet. He was walking toward the finish line when his father ran towards him. The younger runner leaned on his father’s shoulder as he staggered to the finish line. The entire crowd stood and cheered the two men on.¹ Similarly the book of Hebrews encourages us to strive for the finish, putting our best effort into it. We can’t run the race alone Christ Jesus himself provides us with the spiritual stamina needed to complete it. In Philippians 3:12-13, Paul said, "I press on, . . . forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.." When life’s adversities get you down remember the prize we as Christians have. Our prize is seeing Christ face-to-face and sharing in His Eternal Glory. So let us forget everything else and focus our eyes on the eternal prize! |
